We purchased an Alpine Design Mesa 8 Tent with screen porch. Parent company is Westfield Outdoors, Inc. It did not have the right roof poles. I was looking ALL OVER for a smaller tent that had a screen- room vestibule big enough to put a couple of chairs in. After going to three stores I finally ended up buying an 8- person tent in order to get the feature. Because it is a larger tent it is not included in this tent review / comparison. I set it up in my backyard the first day and it was such a pain in the butt to put up that I sent it back and settled for a tent that didn't have the screen vestible. The tent that I ended up getting is the Columbia Bugaboo, a four- to- five- person tent without a vestibule. I must say that I am extremely happy with it, and buying a separate screen room to set up on hot/muggy days provides me with the missing feature. At only $1. 30 this tent is a fantastic buy! It is made by Columbia, so you can pretty much guarantee that it is going to be high- quality with rain- proof seems, tub floors, and lots of ventilation. I like the shoe- doors on either side of the rain- fly area, but it annoys me that these merely just go into the tent, rather than into a separate area. The tent comes with some tarp- material with clips that you put around the inside where those little doors are, but they don't keep dirt from shoes from getting into the rest of the tent. If you seen one set up, you'll know what I mean. The Alpine Shop has top brand name tents from The North Face, Marmot, MSR, Eureka, and Mountain Hardwear for 2 season or 3 season camping adventures. But suffice it to say that putting a little box in there (we use a plastic tub that we carry camping equipment in, takes care of the problem and having the doors there is REALLY handy on muddy days! This tent also comes with a remote- control light and if you remember to bring it this can be very handy. The rain fly comes over pretty far and the sides come out so it's almost like having a vestibule. This is THE tent to have for anyone in a hot environment where tents can quickly become ovens. I've never had a tent with so much ventilation, and the vents have their own little rain covers so water stays OUT while allowing fresh air to come IN. Overall, it's a great quality tent for a super cheap price. That's why I gave it the editor's choice, and that's why I have one sitting in my garage this very moment. Had I done some more searching before buying the Bugaboo I would have found the Kelty Green River 4 Tent at $2. I wanted in a tent: Easy for one person to set up, plenty of room, and an optional screened- in vestibule large enough for two people in chairs and a fat English bulldog to sit in comfortably. However, for the price I'm not sure I would have gone with it. Is an extra $1. 20 more than the Columbia Bugaboo and about $1. Coleman Rangeview worth it for an even smaller tent? I guess that depends on how bad you want a screened vestibule. At the time, I wanted it BADLY, so who knows.. I might have spent the extra dough. I saved an extra space here to discuss tents by Alpine Design, the generic Sports Authority brand. You can get buy one of these things for about $7. You Get What You Pay For. In this case, you probably get even less. I ended up buying one as a second tent to have just in case my nephews were in town or something. My friend used it on a recent trip and I finally got to see the thing set up. It was the cheapest- made piece of crap I've ever seen: The stitching on the seams was coming out, the fabric was paper- thin, the poles wouldn't stay up without being spiked into the ground, and when it rained there was water all over the floor. Instead of keeping water OUT, it keeps all of the water that leaks in from the seams and ceiling IN. In other words, you end up sleeping in a bathtub filled with 2 inches of water. Our reviews are usually very fact- oriented and emotionless but I'll make an exception here: DO NOT EVER BUY AN ALPINE DESIGN TENT - EVER! It gets our low rating of two stars. We would have given it only one, but if it weren't for the very cheap price. How to repair damage to pine tree bark Login/Join <sharon> posted. The objective is to shoot a ball through a hoop 1. A field goal scores three points for the shooting team if the player shoots from behind the three- point line, and two points if shot from in front of the line. A team can also score via free throws, which are worth one point, after the other team is assessed with certain fouls. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins, but additional time (overtime) is issued when the score is tied at the end of regulation. The ball can be advanced on the court by throwing it to a teammate, or by bouncing it while walking or running (dribbling). It is a violation to lift, or drag, one's pivot foot without dribbling the ball, to carry it, or to hold the ball with both hands then resume dribbling. There are many techniques for ball- handling. Basketball teams generally have player positions, the tallest and strongest members of a team are called a center or power forward, while slightly shorter and more agile players are called small forward, and the shortest players or those who possess the best ball handling skills are called a point guard or shooting guard. The point guard directs the on court action of the team, implementing the coach's game plan, and managing the execution of offensive and defensive plays (player positioning). When winter weather got too icy to play football, teams were taken indoors, and it was convenient to have them split in half and play basketball with five on each side. By 1. 89. 5, it was well established at several women's high schools. While the YMCA was responsible for initially developing and spreading the game, within a decade it discouraged the new sport, as rough play and rowdy crowds began to detract from the YMCA's primary mission. However, other amateur sports clubs, colleges, and professional clubs quickly filled the void. In the years before World War I, the Amateur Athletic Union and the Intercollegiate Athletic Association of the United States (forerunner of the NCAA) vied for control over the rules for the game. The first pro league, the National Basketball League, was formed in 1. This league only lasted five years. Dr. James Naismith was instrumental in establishing college basketball. In the days before widespread television coverage of professional and college sports, the popularity of high school basketball was unrivaled in many parts of America. Perhaps the most legendary of high school teams was Indiana's Franklin Wonder Five, which took the nation by storm during the 1. Indiana basketball and earning national recognition. Today virtually every high school in the United States fields a basketball team in varsity competition. The states of Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky are particularly well known for their residents' devotion to high school basketball, commonly called Hoosier Hysteria in Indiana; the critically acclaimed film Hoosiers shows high school basketball's depth of meaning to these communities. There is currently no national tournament to determine a national high school champion. The most serious effort was the National Interscholastic Basketball Tournament at the University of Chicago from 1. The event was organized by Amos Alonzo Stagg and sent invitations to state champion teams. The tournament started out as a mostly Midwest affair but grew. In 1. 92. 9 it had 2. Following a pause during World War II it resumed at Tennessee State College in Nashville. The basis for the champion dwindled after 1. Brown v. Board of Education began an integration of schools. Eight dimension of product quality management can be used at a strategic level to analyze quality characteristics. The concept was defined by David Garvin. Some of the dimensions are mutually reinforcing, whereas others are not. Understanding the trade- offs desired by customers among these dimensions can help build a competitive advantage. Garvin's eight dimensions can be summarized as follows. This dimension of quality involves measurable attributes; brands can usually be ranked objectively on individual aspects of performance. Features: Features are additional characteristics that enhance the appeal of the product or service to the user. Reliability: Reliability is the likelihood that a product will not fail within a specific time period. This is a key element for users who need the product to work without fail. Conformance: Conformance is the precision with which the product or service meets the specified standards. Durability: Durability measures the length of a product. When the product can be repaired, estimating durability is more complicated. The item will be used until it is no longer economical to operate it. This happens when the repair rate and the associated costs increase significantly. Serviceability: Serviceability is the speed with which the product can be put into service when it breaks down, as well as the competence and the behavior of the serviceperson. Aesthetics: Aesthetics is the subjective dimension indicating the kind of response a user has to a product. Page 1 of 3 Quality Dimensions PERFORMANCE Performance refers to a product’s primary operating characteristics. FEATURES Features refer to a product’s secondary product characteristics (i.e., the “bells & whistles. It represents the individual. This dimension of quality involves measurable attributes, so brands can usually be ranked objectively on individual aspects of performance. The Dimensions of Service Quality For Hospitals: Development and Use of the KQCAH Scale Victor Sower, JoAnn Duffy, William Kilbourne, Gerald Kohers, and Phyllis Jones Using a combination of qualitative and quantitative.
Overall performance rankings, however, are more difficult to develop, especially when they involve benefits that not every consumer needs. Performance is often a source of contention between customers and suppliers, particularly when deliverables are not adequately defined within specifications. The performance of a product often influences the profitability or reputation of the end- user. As such, many contracts or specifications include damages related to inadequate performance. The question of whether performance differences are quality differences may depend on circumstantial preferences- but preferences based on functional requirements, not taste. Some performance standards are based on subjective preferences, but the preferences are so universal that they have the force of an objective standard. Examples include free drinks on a plane, permanent- press cycles on a washing machine, and automatic tuners on a color television set. The line separating primary performance characteristics from secondary features is often difficult to draw. This is a key element for users who need the product to work without fail. This dimension reflects the probability of a product malfunctioning or failing within a specified time period. Among the most common measures of reliability are the mean time to first failure, the mean time between failures, and the failure rate per unit time. Because these measures require a product to be in use for a specified period, they are more relevant to durable goods than to products and services that are consumed instantly. Reliability normally becomes more important to consumers as downtime and maintenance become more expensive. Farmers, for example, are especially sensitive to downtime during the short harvest season. Reliable equipment can mean the difference between a good year and spoiled crops. But consumers on other markets are more attuned than ever to product reliability too. Computers and copying machines certainly compare on this basis. Reliability may be closely related to performance. For instance, a product specification may define parameters for up- time, or acceptable failure rates. Reliability is a major contributor to brand or company image, and is considered a fundamental dimension of quality by most end- users. I. E., recent market research shows that, especially for women, reliability has become an automobile's most desired attribute. This dimension owes the most to the traditional approaches to quality pioneered by experts like Juran. When products are developed, these specifications are set and a target is set, for instance the materials used or the dimension of the product. Not only the target but also the tolerance (the range of permitted deviation from the target) is defined. One problem with this approach is that there is little interest in whether the specifications have been met exactly as long as the tolerance limits are met. On the one hand, this can lead to the so- called . When two or more parts are to be fit together, the size of their tolerances often determine how well they will match. Should one part fall at a lower limit of its specification and a matching part at its upper limit, a tight fit is unlikely. The link is likely to wear more quickly than one made from parts whose dimensions have been centered more exactly. Instead of measuring a simple conformance to specifications, the degree to which parts or products diverge from the ideal target is measured. Using this approach, process 1 (see picture) is better even though some items fall beyond specification limits. The traditional approach would have favoured process 2 because it produces more items within the specification limit. It was demonstrated that the problem of . This approach requires a fresh look at the common process quality factor of 'defect rate', to take into account the fact that two parts may each pass the 'tolerance test' separately but be unusable when the attempt is made to join them together. In service businesses, measures of conformance normally focus on accuracy and timeliness and include counts of processing errors, unanticipated delays and other frequent mistakes. When the product can be repaired, estimating durability is more complicated. The item will be used until it is no longer economical to operate it. This happens when the repair rate and the associated costs increase significantly. Technically, durability can be defined as the amount of use one gets from a product before it deteriorates. After so many hours of use, the filament of a light bulb burns up and the bulb must be replaced. Economists call such products . Durability, then, may be defined as the amount of use one gets from a product before it breaks down and replacement is preferable to continued repair. This approach to durability has two important implications. First, it suggests that durability and reliability are closely linked. A product that often fails is likely to be scrapped earlier than one that is more reliable; repair costs will be correspondingly higher and the purchase of a competitive brand will look that much more desirable. Second, this approach implies that durability figures should be interpreted with care. An increase in product life may not be the result of technical improvements or the use of longer- lived materials. Rather, the underlying economic environment simply may have changed. Serviceability.
